Le Claouset near le Ségur in the Tarn département in Occitanie is a traditional farmhouse set around a courtyard garden, with a good-sized adjacent private pool.
Set amid fine scenery and fascinating villages, its 236 m2 combine tradition with comfort: there are many exposed oak beams and stone walls. Each of the four spacious bedrooms has its own en-suite bathroom with shower/bathtub, toilet and handbasin.
Le Claouset was built in the Middle Ages as a "ferme-bastide" -- a farm doubling as a mini-fortress -- when war was ravaging the area. Today, its gîte is the perfect luxury family retreat with a 4-star official 'classement' (French rating system which goes up to 5 stars).
Ideally, 10-12 people can stay in our holiday rental comfortably, but if really needed there are beds for 14, and cots are available for babies and small children. (Sorry, by law we just can't accommodate more than 15.)
A feature of le Claouset is the peaceful courtyard garden. For dining outside there are two tables under a big leafy gazebo, and there are armchairs and loungers for relaxing in the shade of the umbrella-shaped mulberry trees. There's a firepit so you can linger outside on those long summer evenings.
You'll also have exclusive use of the pool with its surrounding private garden and pool hut, which has a dining table and 10 chairs. There's even a fridge-freezer up there, so no need to return to the gîte when you fancy a cool drink or an ice cream.
You can also use the games room (off the courtyard) which has a table tennis table, a trampoline and a bar football table. If you're not feeling energetic, you can just sit and enjoy what is the coolest area around on a hot summer's day.
There's a play area near the gazebo for smaller children, and they can use the swings beside the pool.
There's a big, well equipped kitchen/diner on the ground floor and an even bigger living room with a TV + decoder & DVD player on the first floor. There's free wifi throughout the gîte.

Monestiés is our local village and is rated one of France's most beautiful villages. So is Cordes-sur-Ciel, which is a must-visit and is only about 20 minutes away. Najac, Laguépie and of course the UNESCO World Heritage site at Albi are all very well worth a visit. Or just enjoy the scenery and the peace and quiet.
